- Migration of the phone system ---------------
The IAC migrated their internal phones to a fully digital system by the beginning of the Summer. Accordingly, we've integrated our San Antonio offices PBX (Private Branch eXchange).
The ORM was affected by this, too, and with the help of Carlos PĂ©rez we've adapted the old analog phone network to a new one that keeps the analog phones, but using digital adapters to communicate with Residencia. The communications now make use of the internal fiber network, implying there's no more direct connection using traditional copper pair, which implies two things:
- Reduced (if not eliminated) risk due to lightning, at least with respect to the phone system. This used to be an issue for us; and, - Our communications are now dependant on a single point of failure, namely the network. This could be problematic on the event of an extended power outage, but only if we run out of batteries/fuel.
The most visible implication of the migration is a new set of internal extensions for the San Antonio offices -which we have reflected on our Contact Page,- and the possibility to use our software PBX to call every extension within the IAC network for free, opening interesting options for automated notifications, etc.
