The new CCD#8 and a new camera were installed in ALFOSC in September
2003. The new CCD has virtually no charge diffusion, but suffers from
fringe levels that are typically twice as high as with CCD#7. Due to
problems with the coatings of the optics of the new camera, the total
throughput of ALFOSC is not as expected. The optics will be recoated
in the near future.
